ISBT/Bio-Rad Webinars-Could it be drugs? How to differentiate AIHA from DIIHA
Webinar Recording: 13 November 2024
Aim of the Webinar
This webinar focuses on recognizing serologic results in warm and cold autoimmune hemolytic anemia (AIHA) and understanding how these results may obscure drug-induced immune hemolytic anemia (DIIHA). Participants will learn methods to distinguish between these conditions.
Learning Objectives
- Understand Serologic Patterns: Analyze serologic characteristics in warm AIHA and cold agglutinin disease.
- Identify Diagnostic Clues: Evaluate antibody identification and direct antiglobulin test (DAT) results that suggest alternative diagnoses beyond warm or cold autoantibodies.
- Utilize Patient History: Recognize the importance of patient medication and transfusion history when interpreting a positive DAT.
- Confirm Drug-Dependent Antibodies: Review specialized testing methods to confirm the presence of drug-dependent antibodies.
Educational Level
Intermediate to advanced (Levels 3, 4, and 5).
Prior Knowledge Required
Participants should have a basic understanding of:
- Biological characteristics of warm and cold AIHA.
- Standard serologic workups in autoimmune hemolytic anemia.
Target Audience
- Medical Laboratory Scientists/Biomedical Scientists
- Immunohematology Reference Lab Scientists
- Physicians
