The 37th International Congress of the ISBT, known as ISBT2022, took place as a virtual event from June 4th to 8th, 2022. One of the notable sessions during the congress was the Engineered and Novel Blood Products session, featuring enlightening presentations by renowned experts in the field:
- Ashley Toye presented on the topic of Immortalised Cells as Sustainable Sources of Universal Blood.
- Colton Strong discussed the functional similarity of Platelets Modified with mRNA-Lipid Nanoparticles to clinically transfused platelets, as demonstrated in vitro.
- Thomas Klei shared insights on the Non-DEHP Storage of Cord Blood Erythrocytes, specifically focusing on their potential for transfusion in pre-term infants.
- Nicoletta Orlando presented an optimized fractionation protocol for Red Cells from Cord Blood, considering the collection volume of umbilical cord blood.
- Christopher Kim highlighted the potential of Deuterium-Substituted PUFAs in attenuating the storage lesion.
The session was skillfully moderated by Jason Acker, guiding the audience through the presentations. Furthermore, a dynamic questions and answers session followed the presentations, allowing attendees to engage with the speakers for approximately 15 minutes.
